Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC)

A coalition of over 20 NGOs from across the globe interested in Antarctic environmental protection, ASOC represents the environmental community at Antarctic governance meetings and works to promote important Antarctic conservation goals.

Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy

Working together since 2011, The Pew Charitable Trusts and Dona Bertarelli later formalized their partnership, Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy, with the shared goal of supporting the creation of the first generation of ecologically significant, large, and effective marine protected areas (MPAs) around the world.

The partnership also seeks to establish connections between MPAs to conserve areas and corridors that marine life relies on for breeding and migration, and to help communities strengthen connections to the ecosystems they depend on.

Between them, Pew and Dona Bertarelli have helped to obtain designations or commitments to safeguard more than 13 million square kilometres (5 million square miles) of ocean to date by working with communities, local leaders, philanthropic partners, Indigenous groups, government officials, and scientists.

Joint Thirty by Thirty Funding Initiative

Bloomberg Philanthropies and Arcadia launched the Joint 30×30 Funding Initiative to help secure protection for 30 percent of the world’s oceans by 2030, as outlined in Target 3 of the landmark Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Housed within Oceans 5, the Fund provides a unique opportunity to make progress toward this target for the benefit of people, nature, and the global climate. Launched at the 2023 Our Ocean Conference, the Fund focuses on supporting the ambitions of Indigenous Peoples, coastal communities, non-government organizations (NGOs), and governments to strengthen the health and resilience of the ocean.
